RAISING CHILDREN GOD”S WAY!
Hebrews|12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Hebrews|12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Hebrews|12:3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
Hebrews|12:4 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
Hebrews|12:5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
Hebrews|12:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
Hebrews|12:7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
Hebrews|12:8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
Hebrews|12:9 “Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence’: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
Hebrews|12:10 “For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure”; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
Hebrews|12:11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
As we grow in the Lord we come to understand how God “raises us”. We come to understand that God corrects us because he loves us and only wants the best for us. He knows that there are things in us that must come out and sometimes he has to use “the rod on us” to make us change our mind on some things because we refuse to believe the truth.
This example is the example God wants us to see that we are to raise “our children” as he has raised us. If we never come to see God as love, and never see Satan working in us, we will never be able to raise our children as God raises “his children”.
Jesus was confronted by people that were raising their children wrong and he rebuked them and said some things to them that made them mad.
Matthew|15:1 Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, which were of Jerusalem, saying,
Matthew|15:2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.
Matthew|15:3 But he answered and said unto them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
Matthew|15:4 For God commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
Matthew|15:5 “But ye say”, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It it a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me;
Matthew|15:6 And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. “Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect” by your tradition.
Matthew|15:7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
Matthew|15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
Matthew|15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for
doctrines the commandments of men.
Leviticus|20:9 For every one that curseth his father or his mother shall be surely put to death: he hath cursed his father or his mother; his blood shall be upon him.
Exodus|21:17 And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.
Proverbs|20:11 Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
Proverbs|22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Proverbs|22:15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child;
but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
Proverbs|23:13 “Withhold not correction from the child”: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
Proverbs|23:14 Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell.
Proverbs|29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
Proverbs|10:1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
Proverbs|15:20 A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish man despiseth his mother.
Proverbs|19:26 He that wasteth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
Proverbs|20:20 Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in obscure darkness.
Proverbs|23:22 Hearken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
Proverbs|23:23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
Proverbs|23:24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.
Proverbs|23:25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bare thee shall rejoice.
Proverbs|23:26 My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.
Proverbs|28:24 Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.
Proverbs|30:11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
Proverbs|30:12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.
Proverbs|30:13 There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
Proverbs|30:14 There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.
“There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four
things say not, It is enough:”
Proverbs|30:16 The grave; and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire that saith not, It is enough.
Proverbs|30:17 The eye that mocketh at his father, and despiseth to obey his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.
Ephesians|6:1 Children, “obey your parents in the Lord:” for this is right.
Ephesians|6:2 “Honour” thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;
Ephesians|6:3 That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
(Note: verse one tells us “to obey” Our parents in the Lord!” These may not be our natural parents!
Verse two tells us to “honour” our natural parents, not obey them!
What is the first commandment with a promise?
Exodus|20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may belong upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
Deuteronomy|5:16 Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
So it tells us to correct the child when he is bad, it also tells us that if we beat the child it will not kill him, but it will deliver his soul from death and hell. It also tells us that the child is born with a spirit that is in rebellion against God.
Proverbs|22:15 Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child;
but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
When it tells us, for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, this is what the proverb is saying, that it is not in the heart of a child to serve God. When left alone, the child will “always” go to sin to discover itself the proverb says.
Let us look at what God tells us he has done.
Isaiah|19:14 “The LORD hath mingled a perverse spirit in the midst thereof:” and they have caused Egypt (Carnal world) to err in every work thereof, as a drunken man staggereth in his vomit.
So we see that God himself has caused us to be blinded to the things of him. God did this because in his plan the old testament people were to be examples to new testament people and they could not enter in without us. And we cannot enter in without them.
First he had to write the book, therefore he had to use the people in the pass as examples so he would have witnesses, and proof, of what sin is.
The old testament shows us that it was impossible for anyone to obtain perfection through himself, all he could do was try. By Jesus coming and fulfilling the scriptures and obtaining perfection, he then could seal the contract with his death, and by his resurrection he showed us that the power of righteousness over sin to the point of eternal life, not only to himself, but to all who would go through the regeneration to perfection.
We have looked at many scriptures pertaining to discernment, but it takes the “quicking of the Spirit” to enlighten us to the life of his Word.
