We are to think like Christ!
Why are we to think like Jesus? First of all we must believe that we can be equal with God. If we are called to be sons of God, we must believe that we can be like God. Using Jesus as our example, Jesus spoke of God as His Father, we are to do the same thing.
1 John 2:6
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. (Jesus speaking!)
2 Timothy 3:16 & 17
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
1 Peter 2:21
For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps.
All these scriptures tell us that Jesus is our example to follow in everything. If we do not think that we can be like Jesus, or God our Father, you can never be a son of God. You can never be without sin as Jesus. You can never learn to love God and people as God loves them. You can never be perfect as God our Father.
48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (Jesus Speaking!)
1 Corinthians 1:10
Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together “in the same mind” and in the same judgment.
5 Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another “according to Christ Jesus”.
2 Corinthians 13:11
11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
27 Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
What stops us from seeing the truth of the gospel of Christ? It is unbelief. Satan speaks to our mind telling us that God does not speak to people today, but the Word of God is the same yesterday, today, and forever! The Word of God tells us that Satan has blinded our mind so we cannot believe the gospel of Christ that we might be saved.
2 Corinthians 4:3 & 4
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world (Satan) hath blinded the minds of them which “believe not”, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
God’s plan works by faith, or believing what God has said. If we do not believe what God has said, we have called Him a liar.
1 John 5:3-
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5 Who is he that overcometh the world, “but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God”?
6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.
7 For there are three that bear record “in heaven”, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three “are one”.
8 And there are three that bear witness “in earth”, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three “agree in one”.
9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is “the witness of God” which he hath testified of his Son.
10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that “believeth not God” hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
The example of the children of Israel in the Old Testament is to be an example to us of unbelief. This is the purpose of the Old Testament, to show us what sin is, that we might be warned through seeing what they did in unbelief. If we do not belief, we will reap the same wrath of God as they did.
We were born sinners because of the sin of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. When they fell from grace, we did too! The sin of Adam is in all of us through the love of the world. The world is made up of three things. The lust of the Eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. These three things are in our Adam nature. WE have a nature in us and if we never learn to die to these thing,s we can never enter into the Kingdom of God. These three things allow us to be a god unto our self, apart from God Himself. We must take off the “old man of sin”, and put on “Christ”. When Eve agreed with Satan in the Garden of Eden, She do not know that there were things in her nature that would cause her and Adam to lose their life that they had with God, but when Jesus was temped in the wilderness, He did not agree with Satan when He was temped of him with theses three things, but answered with, “It is written”, stopping Satan in his tracks. The Word of God is the only thing that will stop Satan, if we know it and use it.
1 John 2:
15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world,
“the love of the Father is not in him”.
16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
17 And the world passeth away, and “the lust thereof”: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
18 Little children, “it is the last time”: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby “we know” that it is the last time.
King James Version (KJV)
1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery “to be equal with God”:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
