What Part Does The Law Of Moses Play In our Life Today?
King James Version (KJV)
4 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land,
“because” there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, “and blood toucheth blood”.
(Because these things are happening in our land, the curse of the law is operating yet today!)
3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
4 Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest.
5 Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: “because thou hast rejected knowledge”, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me:
“seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God”, I will also forget thy children.
17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 “Having the understanding darkened,
“being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them (Why are they alienated from the life of God?)
“because of the blindness of their heart”:
19 Who being “past feeling” have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
King James Version (KJV)
12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,
“that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God”.
10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
(Who are “them”? They are people who do not believe, or do what Jesus said to do!)
12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
13 Therefore speak I to them in parables:
“because they seeing see not”; “and hearing they hear not”, “neither do they understand”.
14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, (Isaiah) which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes “they have closed”; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should “heal” them.
16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
(In the book of 2 Corinthians 3 & 4 we are given a reason why people cannot understand the Bible, it is because their heart has not turned to the Lord, therefore the understanding of the Old Testament has been hidden from them by the Lord!)
2 Corinthians 3:12-18 and 2 Corinthians 4:1-3
12 Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:
13 And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:
14 “But their minds were blinded”:
for until this day “remaineth the same vail untaken away’
“in the reading of the Old Testament”; which vail is done away in Christ.
15 “But even unto this day”, “when Moses is read”, (The Old Testament!) “the vail is upon their heart”.
16 Nevertheless when it (Their heart) “shall turn to the Lord”, the vail shall be taken away.
17 Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.
18 But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, “are changed into the same image from glory to glory”, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
2 Corinthians 4
King James Version (KJV)
1 Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
2 But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4 In whom the god of this world (Satan!) hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
(Why are we to put-on the armour of God?
That we may be able to stand against the wiles of THE DEVIL!)
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
(And what else are we to do?)
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
19 And for me, (And pray for Paul! Why?) that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, (Paul is alive and well in the “Spirit”. He has a job to do and that job is to make known to us the mystery of the gospel of Christ! Praise God!)
20 For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.
21 But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:
22 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.
(What is “the vail’ that stops people from not seeing the truth out of the Old Testament? It is sin, or demons that have power to blind us from seeing the truth.)
1 John 2:8-11
8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.
9 “He that saith he is in the light”,
and hateth his brother,
“is in darkness even until now”.
10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
11 But he that hateth his brother “is in darkness”, “and walketh in darkness”, “and knoweth not whither he goeth”, (Why?)
“because that darkness hath blinded his eyes”.
(The sin of hate causes you to not be able to see and hear by the Spirit. If you do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive you your trespasses.)
Mark 11:25 & 26
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
26 “But if ye do not forgive,”
“neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses”.
( It is not only hate that stops you from receiving forgiveness from God, but unbelief also stops God from forgiving you.)
King James Version (KJV)
3 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;
2 Who was faithful to him that appointed him, as also Moses was faithful in all his house.
3 For this man, (Jesus Christ!) was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
4 For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.
5 And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, “as a servant”, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
6 But Christ “as a son” over his own house; “whose house are we”, “ if” we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,
8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:
9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.
10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.
11 So I sware in my wrath, “They shall not enter into my rest”.)
12 Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an “evil heart of unbelief”, in departing from the living God. (A warning to us!!!!!)
13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To-day;
lest any of you “be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin”.
14 For we are made partakers of Christ,
“if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end”;
15 While it is said, “To day” if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.
16 For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses.
17 But with whom was he grieved forty years? was it not with them that had sinned, whose carcases fell in the wilderness?
18 And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but to them that “believed not”?
19 So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief.
(Faith demands that you believe what God has said and doing it. The promise was to the “seed of Abraham: who is Christ He said that He was going to send a “Comforter” that would bring all things to our remembrance and show us things to come. This is also called the Holy Ghost, (not Holy Spirit! Important!) To receive the Holy Ghost, you must have a pure heart. Jesus told us in the sermon on the mount, blessed are the pure in “heart”, for they shall see God. The word see, is to receive a revelation of God, or the vail being taken off of our eyes to see God in Old Testament
In Isaiah 28:1- 19
King James Version (KJV)
1) Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!
2 Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand.
3 The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet:
4 And the glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be a fading flower, and as the hasty fruit before the summer; which when he that looketh upon it seeth, while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up.
5 “In that day” (Today!) shall the LORD of hosts be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people,
6 And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate.
7 But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.
8 For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.
9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts. (Babe’s in Christ!)
10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people. (The Holy Ghost with speaking in tongues!)
12 To whom he said,
This is “the rest” wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest;
and this is the refreshing:
yet they would not hear. (The Holy Ghost!)
13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
14 Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.
15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste. (Jesus Christ!)
17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.
19 From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.
It was foretold what Jesus Christ would do and what He would when He came. He is judging the world in righteousness, mercy, and truth, but it would be done in the foolishness of preaching the things of the Kingdom of God to the people of the world.
In the heart of carnal man are three things:
1) The lust of the eye.
2) The lust of the flesh.
3) And the pride of life.
In scripture these three things are called “The world”. We are born with this carnal nature and the roots of this nature is in our genes passed down to us through the seed of Adam. Adam was created with these things in him. God knew that Adam and Eve would partake of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, this was part of God’s plan. In the book of Revelation the statement was made by John about Jesus Christ, and his calling. God had it in his plan for Jesus to die before the foundation of the earth.
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb “slain from the foundation of the world”.
(This, and other scriptures, tells us that God ordained Jesus to die for our sins “before the foundation of the world”!)
King James Version (KJV)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
16 And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
17 For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
18 No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.
Another thing that is sin, is to judge people. We are warned that no one is allowed to judge anyone but Jesus Christ. He is the only one that is allowed to judge because He judges in holiness, and righteousness. When we judge, we judge out of a self-righteous spirit, not out of mercy, grace, and truth.
King James Version (KJV)
2 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
8 But unto them that are contentious, “and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness”, indignation and wrath,
9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
(Three levels of the law!)
12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
Level 1) Them that sin without law shall perish without law.
Level 2) Them that sin in the law shall be judged “by the law”.
Level 3) Us, the Gentiles, who are in Christ Jesus verses 13 thru 16. them that have not the law, but “do” the things contained in the law are a law unto themselves!
13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
14 For when the Gentiles, (Us, who are in Christ Jesus and are born again by the Spirit of the Father, who walk not after the flesh but after the Spirit and we do not sin.)
“which have not the law”, “do by nature” the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, “are a law unto themselves”:
15 “Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts”, “their conscience also bearing witness”, and “their thoughts” the mean while “accusing” or else “excusing” one another;)
16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men “by Jesus Christ” according to my gospel. (According to Paul’s gospel.)
(If you are in levels one and two, you are still under the law of Moses!)
Inn the book of 1 Corinthians 10 we are warned about the things that the children did in the wilderness that we are not to do in Christ.
1 Corinthians 10:1-14
1 Corinthians 10
King James Version (KJV)
1 Moreover, brethren, “I would not that ye should be ignorant”, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
6 “Now these things were our examples”,
“to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted”.
7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.
10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, (Admonition-To warn!) upon whom the ends of the world are come.
12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
(All these examples in 1 Corinthians 10 are out of the Old Testament. They are warnings to us to not do the things that the children of Israel did. The children of Israel were blinded for this reason, that they might be an example to us not to fall after the same things that they did. Because God blinded them from the things that we see, this is why God is going to graft them in again. Praise be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!)
1 Timothy 1:1-17
1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;
2 Unto Timothy, my own son in the faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord.
3 As I besought thee to abide still at Ephesus, when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some that they teach no other doctrine,
4 Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do.
5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned:
6 From which some having swerved have turned aside unto vain jangling;
7 Desiring to be teachers of the law; understanding neither what they say, nor whereof they affirm.
8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;
9 Knowing this,
“that the law is not made for a righteous man’, (But for the person that is going to brake the law!)
but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
10 For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;
11 According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust.
12 And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
14 And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for “a pattern” to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
1 John 3:1-6
King James Version (KJV)
1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
(Anyone who sins, is transgressing the law of Moses! For sin “IS THE TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW!)
5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
